With first-choice goalkeeper Alexander Nübel having decided to move on after his two-year loan spell from Bayern Munich, Monaco have been in the market for a new shot-stopper. The club now appear to have set their sights on an option from new manager Adi Hütter’s home country.

According to L’Équipe, the Ligue 1 outfit have identified RB Salzburg’s Philipp Köhn as their priority for the position, with talks between the two clubs moving along well. Monaco’s new sporting director Thiago Scuro, who until his arrival in the principality had long been working within the Red Bull network, has won over the double Austrian champion.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage and an agreement between the two clubs is now in sight, with L’Équipe pointing out that Monaco appear to have beaten several Bundesliga clubs to the Swiss U21 international’s signing.

The 25-year-old is a Stuttgart youth academy graduate, who first joined RB Leipzig before making the move to Austria. Köhn became a regular starter for Salzburg from the 2021/22 season onwards.
