Stade Rennais have officially confirmed the transfer of Guela Doué to RC Strasbourg Alsace. There had been reports suggesting that the Doué would instead be bought by Chelsea FC who would then loan the fullback to their sister club.
The amount that Rennes have received for the transfer of the fullback who had only one year left on his contract has not been revealed, and there were competing reports over the amount. Gianluca Di Marzio had stated that Chelsea offered €9 million with €2 million in add-ons. However, L’Équipe wrote that Strasbourg had bid €6.5 million also with €2 million in bonuses.
Doué like his younger brother (Désiré) had looked set to leave his training club this summer despite becoming an essential part of the team. Doué from January had become the first-choice right back with Lorenz Assignon (24) loaned to Burnley.
Increased playing time did not manage to convince Doué to remain at Rennes and instead, he opted for a new adventure in his young career.
