Villarreal CF have sacked coach Javi Calleja after the weekend's loss to Celta Vigo left them 17th in the table, three points clear of relegation.
The decision was taken on Monday following the team's unexpectedly poor start to the LaLiga campaign.
Club president Ferndnao Roig pulled the plug on Calleja, who joined Villarreal seven years ago as a youth team coach. Last season he was promoted to the first team, where he's overseen 65 official games.
Villarreal finished fifth last season, qualifying for the Europa League. And, despite their bad form domestically, they lead their group in Europe.
However, that wasn't enough to save Calleja's job. With relegation now a real threat and just three wins in 15 league games, the club have decided to act.

the problem with teams like villarreal is that they finish one season in a good position but they struggle the season after because of having poor budget, debt, etc..... . that's why they sack their manager, i am expecting valencia will do the same in the future . who agrees with me? π€π€π€π€
guedez, santi mina, Rodrigo , etc were underdogs last season with valencia, where are they now in this season? disappearing. same as villareal players. finally, these teams will never reach the level of real Madrid and Barcelona unless they have a trillionare owner takeover

I don't think that surprised me, wait till the end of December other 5 to 9 Coaches in Europe will follow him in the race of sack.

How unfortunate. I think the most difficult managerial job on earth is managing football. Your fate is decided by 11 souls on the pitch, luck are those who manages Lionel Messiah, usually they retire by their own will than being sacked.
