OFFICIAL: West Ham's Edson Alvarez joins Fenerbahçe on loan with option to buy

West Ham United can confirm Edson Álvarez has joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK on loan for the 2025/26 season, with an option to make a permanent transfer next summer.

Club Statement: 

Our club has reached an agreement with West Ham United of England for the loan transfer of Mexican international Edson Alvarez until the end of the 2025–2026 season, with an option to purchase.

The accomplished 28-year-old midfielder has signed a contract that binds him to the yellow and navy colors.

We welcome Edson Alvarez to our family and wish him many victories and championships with Fenerbahçe.

Speaking after the signing ceremony at the Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex in Chobani Stadium, our Director of Football Devin Özek said, “We have signed Edson Alvarez, captain of the Mexican national team. He is strong, intelligent, and has high-level international experience. We are very happy to welcome him to our club.”

I knew Fenerbahçe was a huge club before coming here, but from the very first moment, I realized that Fenerbahçe is a much bigger club than I thought. I'm very happy to be here. I want to train with my team as soon as possible, meet our fans in our stadium, and play in front of them.”

Regarding the fans, Alvarez said, “I've heard a lot of good things about Fenerbahçe fans. I compare them to Mexicans. They're incredibly passionate and give everything for their team. As a Fenerbahçe player, I will show all my quality on the field and give my all.” He also shared the following message: “I'm wearing the Fenerbahçe jersey right now, and I will do everything for it. I want our fans to have no doubts.”
