Guti will be reunited with former Pachuca teammate Hirving Lozano, joining the Dutch side on a five-year deal

Mexico midfielder Erick Gutierrez will join his international teammate and friend Hirving Lozano at PSV, the Dutch club announced Wednesday.

PSV has agreed to terms with both Liga MX club Pachuca and the player with Gutierrez set to join PSV on a five-year deal as long as he passes a medical.

The 23-year-old was a reported target for the Dutch side this summer, but the club filled the need it has for a central midfielder by signing New Zealand international Ryan Thomas from PEC Zwolle.

Thomas, however, suffered a knee injury during training last week that will sideline him for the rest of the year and potentially the entire season.

PSV manager Mark van Bommel initially was sly about the potential of signing the midfielder.

"We are still working on a few deals and I hope things will soon be done with one or two players. Can I confirm that Gutierrez is an option? I cannot confirm anything now," he told Dutch TV station Veronica after Wednesday's 3-0 victory over BATE Borisov.

"We have only just sealed qualification and now is not the time to talk about transfers. I understand it's a talking point, though, as we only have 48 hrs until the end of the transfer window."

The talking only grew louder later Wednesday with PSV showing photos of Mexican star Hirving Lozano at his home videochatting while a camera records his conversation. Another post showed that Lozano was chatting with "Guti," and the deal was announced within the hour.
