The Premier League is once again looking toward MLS for reinforcements. This time, the focus is on Sam Surridge — the league’s second‑highest scorer this season, trailing only MVP Lionel Messi.
According to reporters Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook, Wolverhampton Wanderers — currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table — are interested in signing the British striker during the winter transfer window. With just two points through 17 matches, Wolves are desperate to spark a turnaround in the second half of the season.
Surridge, 27, is coming off a standout year with Nashville SC, scoring 31 goals across all competitions before the team was knocked out in the first round of the MLS Playoffs, losing a best‑of‑three series to Inter Miami.
A return to the Premier League?
Surridge isn’t new to English soccer. Before joining MLS, he made 20 Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest, scoring once, and played six matches for Bournemouth without finding the net.
Premier League clubs keep shopping in MLS
If Surridge does make the move to Wolves, it would be the latest example of Premier League teams dipping into MLS talent.
In 2025, Brighton signed Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gómez from Inter Miami, while Manchester City secured American prodigy Cavan Sullivan from the Philadelphia Union.
In 2024, Chelsea landed Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United. The year before, Jhon Durán left the Chicago Fire to join Aston Villa, and goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic moved from the New England Revolution to Chelsea.
MLS players have also been making their way to the Championship, England’s second division. Recent examples include Patrick Agyemang (Derby County), Aidan Morris (Middlesbrough), and Daryl Dike (West Bromwich Albion), among others.
