Andy Robertson was never offered the chance to stay at Liverpool beyond the end of this season, with the Scotland international hoping to find a new club before the World Cup.
It was confirmed on Friday that Robertson will join Mohamed Salah in leaving Anfield at the end of the campaign, having enjoyed nine successful years with the club.
The left-back helped Liverpool win Premier League titles under Jurgen Klopp in 2019-20 and Arne Slot in 2024-25, as well as tasting glory in the Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup (twice) under the German.
Robertson made his 374th appearance for the Reds on Saturday as they defeated Fulham 2-0 in their first home match since the exits of Robertson and Salah were confirmed.
He has played a backup role for much of this campaign, following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
He has only made 16 starts in all competitions in 2025-26, playing 1,686 minutes overall.
In his previous eight campaigns with Liverpool, the Scot never made fewer than 23 starts or played less than 2,193 minutes, with both of those figures recorded in an injury-hit 2023-24.
"It means I don't need to lie to everyone, so it's a weight off my shoulders," Robertson said when asked about the decision to pre-announce his exit, as quoted by The Athletic.
"It's not like I've knocked back a contract or anything, there was no contract on the table. It was a conversation we all had.
"It was a conversation of, 'Okay, this is what I want to do, I want to play and I believe I've still got the ability to play'. I think I have showed that this season."
Robertson will lead Scotland into their first World Cup since 1998 this summer, with Haiti their first Group C opponents in Foxborough on June 13.
And he does not want to travel to the tournament with his next move yet to be decided.
"Last summer it was kind of close and I decided to stay. It was the same in January. I will be looking to sort my future out sooner rather than later," he added.
"I don't want to be going to the World Cup with anything hanging over my head. But as of yet, there's nothing. We’ll see where the future lies for me and my family."

yea, liverpool seems they're tryna follow the failing Chelsea model with this army of kids as if we're running a creech or daycare center, as players reach 28yo we want to move them on for younger players who is worse,we got rid of Diaz saying that he's getting old and now it's one of our main reason we have no speed in our attackers, Guehi,Cherki and the winger from bourmonth, liverpool had the chance to buy all three for about 100mil,which would leave us with almost 400mil left to spend to complete our team,we instead spend almost half billion on an unfinished and incomplete team, hence our struggles, just want to say we're savvy while the team fails, smart but not clever...

It is true that no player can play forever. But to dismiss Robertson, Salah and Virv so easily are both unfair and disrespectful. They have already, time and again, that they can still perform, still contribute and still offer real value to Liverpool or any other top clubs. Players like them do not earn respect through talk. They earn it through years of hard work, consistency, sacrifice, commitment andoyalty to the badge. That should never be forgotten so easily so quickly nuzy because some people like to judge from the sidelines. Criticising a player is easy. Reaching the level they have reached, maintaining standards at the highest level and giving everything for the club season after season. Before making harsh orrogant comments about any player, people should show more wisdom, more humility and more respect. If people have to pay for every reckless comment they made, many would probably stay quiet. And perhaps that would be better than speaking without fairness, knowledge or respect.

No player can play forever including Salah or Messi. Just be humble enough to say your time is coming to end playing with Liverpool. Be a role model like Milner . Find a club in the bottom half of the table. Liverpool supporters appreciate your service to Liverpool all this years.

Slot, bite the bullet. Mo and Virg have to replaced. Failing to do so would be failing your duty. The current team has an old man's syndrome. Also get befitting replacements for Diaz and Trent.
