Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal worth £71million to sign Bryan Mbuemo from Brentford.
According to Romano, The Cameroonian forward has long been a target for Ruben Amorim, as the United boss looks to add to options going forward.
After more than a month of negotiations between the clubs, the Red Devils have finally agreed terms with the Bees over a fee to sign the 25-year-old.
Man Utd saw two bids rejected for the Cameroon attacker, the second of which was worth more than £60million.
But Brentford held firm on their demands to get £65m in a sale.
And their hardline stance has paid off with the clubs finally reaching an agreement.
Man Utd will pay a guaranteed £65m across four instalments, while a further £6m could be added in bonuses down the line.
Mbeumo gave the cold shoulder to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle to prioritise a move to Old Trafford, despite those clubs being able to promise Champions League football.
The clubs will now move to finalise the deal, with Man Utd due to jet out to the United States for their pre-season tour next Tuesday.
He will be the second much-needed addition to Ruben Amorim's goal-shy frontline, following Matheus Cunha, who arrived earlier in the summer for a fee of £62.5m from Wolves.
Mbeumo was among the top scorers in the Premier League last season, with 20 goals to his name.
That figure was only bettered by golden-boot winner Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22), while Chris Wood also matched the figure.
He also chipped in with seven assists for Brentford last season.
It is expected that Mbeumo will line up as the right-sided No10 in Amorim's 3-4-3 set up, with Cunha lining up on the other side behind a No9.
It remains to be seen whether they will shift on Rasmus Hojlund to create space for a new frontman after the Dane's poor year in front of goal.
Elsewhere, Man Utd are reportedly in talks to sign 23-year-old Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as they eye a replacement for calamity goalie Andre Onana.
Brentford had lined up an offer to buy Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich as their Mbeumo replacement, but missed a 5pm deadline on Tuesday to trigger a £35m release clause.
Man Utd will play their first pre-season game against Leeds this weekend in Stockholm.
When the Premier League rolls around, they will open by hosting Arsenal at Old Trafford.
An Mbeumo reunion with Brentford at his old stomping ground is due to take place at the end of September.

I’m surprised seeing some fans saying the fee is too much, Chelsea sign Joao Pedro with 10 premier league goals and 6 assists for £60m, Newcastle signed with Elanga 6 goals and 11 assists for £55m, Madueke with 7 goals 4 assists in premier league for 60m now someone with 20 goals 7 assists for 70m for team that doesn’t even qualify for Europa football… you guys are not serious 🧐

I truly don't understand why people underrate this talent so much how many strikers in the premier league have scored over 20 goals in the premier league not much at all this guy was playing in one of the bottom teams in the premier league wait don't come and start replying me that man united are one of the bottom teams in the premier league yes I agree last season they were but the fact man united will always be way more popular than Brentford so if he scores over 20 goals with us he would get recognized way more if people actually watched Brentford games they would know how good he is and a truthful fact is that he is better than 80 percent of than the strikers in the premier league not many strikers score more than 20 goals because it is a very hard league to play in and well he ( Mbeamo) competed better than most them so don't underrate this talent.

if elanga cost 55m with just five goals, madueke 55 m with just 7 goals. what makes you think that paying 70 m for a player that gave you 20 goals is bad business
