Simeone: Everyone is on the same page over signings at Atletico

Diego Simeone insisted everybody involved in Atletico Madrid's leadership was on the same page regarding transfers over the past month.

Atletico allowed four players to leave the club in the transfer window, which closed on Monday.

Conor Gallagher, Carlos Martin, Javi Galan and Giacomo Raspadori left, with Atletico leaving their incoming business late.

Ademola Lookman joined in a €35m deal from Atalanta, while Obed Vargas signed from the Seattle Sounders and Rodrigo Mendoza arrived from Elche.

Simeone had been strong in his insistence that Atletico must improve their squad before the window closed, but when asked about any friction with the club's leadership, the Argentine shrugged off any issues.

"It's normal for the market to create a feeling of different thoughts and ways of seeing things, and you're aware of any controversy that might be perceived, we're all on the same page, seeking the best for Atletico," he told reporters ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey clash with Real Betis.

Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 and scored 41 Serie A goals in that time, a tally bettered by only two players (Lautaro Martinez – 70, Riccardo Orsolini – 43).

"He joined the group very quickly, and you could immediately notice his physical strength, his speed, his ability to change the play, and his power in the final third," Simeone said of Lookman.

"We hope he can help us in the way he believes he can, and in the way we expect.

"Obviously, [we need] important partnerships [to be] formed for the good of the team, because that’s what it’s about, bringing good players together."
