FC Bayern is moving forward with squad planning, with a focus on the left wing position. Nico Williams appears to be the preferred option.

FC Bayern is forging ahead with squad planning for the new season. The focus is on the left wing position. Following the collapse of Florian Wirtz's transfer and the potential departure of Kingsley Coman, Nico Williams is considered the absolute ideal solution.

As reported in the BILD podcast “Bayern Insider,” Williams is currently the dream solution for sporting director Max Eberl in this position.

The 22-year-old reportedly has a release clause of around €60 million at Athletic Bilbao. Williams has made a name for himself in recent months. He has particularly impressed with spectacular performances alongside Lamine Yamal for the Spanish national team. According to the report, in Bayern's internal rankings, Williams is a winger with similar appeal to Franck Ribéry or Arjen Robben.

But the deal has its pitfalls. According to the podcast, the Spaniard's salary demands are the central sticking point. Williams is said to be demanding around €24 million per year. This would put him in the top earner category at FC Bayern Munich in one fell swoop. That's exactly what Eberl wants to prevent. The new sporting management plans to keep the salary structure flatter in the future and avoid excessive salaries.

A lot of competition for Nico Williams

But one thing is also clear: Should Bayern decide to sign Williams, they'll face competition – especially from the Premier League. According to the podcast, some clubs there would be more willing to meet the winger's salary demands. FC Barcelona, on the other hand, has withdrawn from the poker game this summer. Real Madrid has only made a loose inquiry so far. Bilbao itself would like to keep Williams.

For FC Bayern, it remains a race against time and the market. Should the sale of Kimmsley Coman—who is heavily considering a move to Saudi Arabia—create some leeway, a transfer of Williams could become a possibility.
