Benzema has a goal away from equaling Di Stefano's 49 goals in UCL

Karim Benzema is one goal away from matching Alfredo Di Stefano's 49 goals and becoming Real Madrid's third joint-third top scorer in European competition.

The Argentine possesses the second-best ratio with 0.84 goals per game, only behind Ferenc Puskas, who scored 35 times in 41 matches (0.85).

Benzema has netted 48 goals in 113 games with Real Madrid and Lyon, which translates to an average of 0.53 goals per match.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (105), Raul Gonzalez (71) and Di Stefano have sent the ball into the back of the opposition's net more times than the Frenchman in Real Madrid's history.

With five goals in six LaLiga Santander games so far this season, and as many as 30 throughout the 2018/19 campaign, Benzema is the only Los Blancos player who attempted to fill in Cristiano Ronaldo's boots, after the Portuguese's departure to Juventus.

"It is true that the Champions League is special for everyone, also for [Benzema]," Zinedine Zidane said in the press conference prior the Club Brugge clash.

"What I see now different is his serenity.

"I see someone more responsible and the difference is big."
