Non-league club Chester FC have issued a hard-hitting statement after trouble flared at their Good Friday game against Chorley, which included a dancing pitch invader holding a pair of pints.
The National League North club have slammed a “handful of mindless individuals” after one supporter required medical attention while a steward was assaulted. Meanwhile, footage has emerged on social media of one fan jigging across the pitch while holding on to two full pints amid flares that had been thrown onto the pitch at the Deva Stadium.
The individual was briefly chased by Chorley manager Andy Preece but managed to get to the other side of the playing surface without being apprehended and climbed back into the crowd, which numbered almost 3,500. He then appeared to hold the pints aloft in celebration.
After a day of shame for the club, who are chasing promotion to the National League, Chester have told trouble-makers to stay away.
The statement read: “Chester Football Club condemns those responsible for the dangerous actions that marred the end of our game with Chorley on Good Friday.
“We are extremely disappointed that, on an afternoon when a crowd of more than 3,400 enjoyed a family friendly atmosphere pre-match, we are instead forced to focus on handful of mindless individuals, whose behaviour has resulted in one supporter requiring emergency medical treatment and a steward being assaulted.
“The club is now reviewing CCTV footage and work with the police to ensure these individuals are identified and dealt with in the strongest possible terms, including bringing criminal prosecution.
“These actions do not represent Chester Football Club and those involved are no longer welcome at the Deva Stadium.”
