Erik ten Hag has rejected a move to his former club Ajax as the Dutch manager prefers 'other plans', Dutch media report.

Ajax were forced to find a new manager after Francesco Farioli decided to leave the Amsterdam club last Monday, citing "disagreements" with the executive board as his reason for departing after one season.

The 36-time Dutch champions quickly moved on and created a shortlist consisting of Go Ahead Eagles manager Paul Simonis and former boss Erik ten Hag, who left Ajax in 2022 to join Manchester United.

Ajax technical director Alex Kroes confirmed on Monday he'd made contact with Ten Hag after Sunday's Eredivisie game against FC Twente (2-0 win), but wouldn't say if the 55-year-old was open to returning to the club with which he won three Eredivisie titles, the KNVB Beker twice, one Johan Cruijff Schaal, and reached the semi-finals of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League.

However, Dutch media outlet Voetbal International reported on Thursday that Ajax aren't counting on Ten Hag anymore as the manager "chooses to pursue other plans". Ten Hag hasn't had a job since his departure from Manchester United in November, but reportedly has interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
