Ex-Roma boss Rudi Garcia has been appointed the new Lyon coach.

Lyon have confirmed the appointment of Rudi Garcia as head coach with immediate effect after Sylvinho was sacked last week. He signs a contract until June 2021 in the process.

In a surprising turn of events, with ex-PSG and France boss Laurent Blanc long believed to be the front-runner, Lyon decided to make the appointment of Rudi Garcia after he impressed the board with a detailed presentation over the weekend.

Garcia brings with him just one assistant, Claude Fichaux, who worked with him at Marseille, Lille and AS Roma.

This development has been met with widespread disappointment by prominent fan voices at Lyon.
