Real Madrid 'rule out Declan Rice move after midfielder gave his word to Arsenal'

Real Madrid have reportedly ruled out a summer move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

It comes as the England midfielder is understood to have 'given his word' to Arsenal that he will be at the Emirates next season.

Arsenal have made the 24-year-old their top summer target as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in competition for Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.

According to El Nacional, despite Florentino Perez having a long-standing interest in Rice, the Real president will not make an offer after hearing Rice had made a commitment to move to north London.

Despite Rice having remained loyal to West Ham until now, it's understood the highly-rated midfielder is now open to moving.

Rice has just 18 months left on his contract and with West Ham floundering in 16th place, a new challenge could be on the horizon.

Although the 24-year-old has been heavily linked with the likes of Real, Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, he now looks destined to play under title-challenging Arteta.

Since joining West Ham from Chelsea's youth, Rice has made 221 appearances for the club,  and was named as club captain following the retirement of Mark Noble.

Rice played a pivotal role in guiding West Ham to the Europa League semi-finals last season, but David Moyes' side have not reached expectations this season.

The midfielder is set to leave the London Stadium this summer, with the Hammers wanting a deal worth £100million - though there looks little hope of the east London club receiving that fee.

Rice has continued to speak of his desire to play Champions League football. Arsenal, barring a total capitulation of their season, will regain their Champions League status.
