Retiring star Matuidi had to google a photo of his wife for Valentine's Day

Blaise Matuidi may have won the World Cup with France, but his most memorable moment could very well be the time he appeared to Google a photo of his wife.

The box-to-box midfielder hangs up his boots alongside three Serie A titles, five Ligue One trophies, a World Cup winners' medal, and many more. Unfortunately, there is a significant chance these unbelievable achievements could be clouded by one Valentine's post to his wife.

As one does in the modern world, Matuidi went to his social media accounts and posted a nice photo of his wife Isabelle Matuidi to celebrate Valentine's Day. However, the way in which he acquired this photograph left supporters in stitches.

The unforgettable social media post came in 2017, one year before he lifted the World Cup with France. He uploaded a picture of he and his wife Isabelle at an awards ceremony.

However, this photograph appeared to be a screenshot from Google. This is evident as the search bar, emblazoned with the post Matuidi femme (Matuidi wife) is present at the top of the screen, alongside the time of day and the battery emblem at the top of an iPhone.

It was a particularly unusual approach as many people would simply assume the Frenchman would already have nice photographs of himself and his wife on the phone. Nevertheless, the unusual screengrab would suggest one of three things: there are no photos, he was unable to access his albums on his phone, or he simply could not be bothered to go through them to find a photo.

Considering his remarkable football career, we imagine Isabelle was able to forgive the slapdash Valentine's post. Matuidi announced his retirement in a post on social media.

Unsurprisingly, Matuidi did not need to google the photograph of himself lifting the World Cup triumphantly on Google. “Football, I loved you so much. Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say stop,” Matuidi wrote on social media.

“I accomplished my dreams as a child, my dreams as a man. It is with a tight throat but with pride that I turn this page today. Thank you.”
