Bayern Munich were relentless on Tuesday night, hammering Red Bull Salzburg 7-1 in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, having been somewhat fortunate to draw 1-1 in the first leg in Austria.

Bayern Munich show no mercy in Salzburg mauling

Bayern claiming an aggregate win of 8-2 will bring back unwanted memories for many Barcelona fans, but Salzburg now join a long list of clubs to have been humiliated by the Germans in recent years.

Lewandowski's hat-trick

Robert Lewandowski got things going early and had a hat-trick with just 23 minutes on the clock. He converted penalties in the 12th and 21st minutes before completing his treble two minutes later.

Serge Gnabry added a fourth before half time.

Thomas Muller ensured the goals kept coming in the second half, bagging Bayern's fifth less than 10 minutes after the restart, and Maurits Kjaergaard pulled one back for the visitors with 20 minutes to play.

Bayern didn't let up though and Muller got his second and their sixth in the 83rd minute before Leroy Sane got the game's final goal with just their ninth attempt on target in the 85th.
