Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated another major accolade by becoming the most searched athlete in Google history.

The 38-year-old Portugal star beat the likes of Argentine legend Lionel Messi and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli to the title.

Google commemorated their 25th anniversary with a video highlighting the highest searches across various categories, with Ronaldo reigning supreme among athletes.

The 38-year-old remains one of the most recognisable athletes on the planet, and his 615 million followers on Instagram is a higher figure than any other person.

Posting about the milestone on X (Twitter), Ronaldo commented: 'Grateful to be honoured as the most searched athlete in Google history.'

He attached a video which saw a number of his fans perform the 'Siu' celebration, ending with his own rendition.

Ronaldo is a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or and Champions League winner. He has lifted the Premier League trophy three times, while winning the Serie A and La Liga twice each.

The Portuguese sensation has been capped 205 times by Portugal, scoring an incredible 128 goals, and helping his country win the European Championship in 2016.

Last year Ronaldo was named as the most influential footballer on Instagram due to play at the 2022 World Cup.

The forward averages more than $3.5m in media value per post, according to analysts Nielsen Sports.

Rankings are based on Nielsen's influencer measurement tool, which evaluates total followers, follower growth, engagement rate and average brand value per post on Instagram to give a media value total.

It ranked the players who are expected to feature at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
