Chelsea endured one of their worst ever Premier League weekends after their 6-0 loss at Manchester City saw them suffer their heaviest ever defeat in the competition.
Maurizio Sarri's side were torn apart at the Etihad Stadium, as a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero, a brace from Raheem Sterling and a sweet strike from Ilkay Gundogan tore into the Blues who found themselves 4-0 down inside 25 minutes.
Indeed, Chelsea's capitulation at the Etihad is their worst in any competition since they were beaten 7-0 by Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest in 1991.
The result comes off the back of an appalling run away from home under Sarri, whose side on their previous trip away from Stamford Bridge were left stunned in a 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
Failure to score at City also means Chelsea have still yet to score a goal away from the Bridge in 2019.
The heavy defeats on the road also mark another milestone, as it is the first time since December 1990 that they have conceded four or more goals away from home in consecutive top flight fixtures.
But even one of those was a victory, as preceding a 4-1 loss at Leeds United on Boxing Day in 1990 they had won 6-4 against Derby County at the Baseball Ground.
Not all of Chelsea's latest troubles can be blamed on Sarri though, with the City defeat meaning they have now failed to win their last seven Premier League away games against the so-called 'big-six' losing their last five.
Chelsea started the weekend holding fourth spot in the top flight and a place in the Champions League next season, but had slipped to fifth following Manchester United's victory at Fulham on Saturday.
The Blues only needed a point to regain their top four place, but in being ripped apart at the Etihad Stadium instead slipped below Arsenal into sixth in the table. The London rivals are now matched on goal difference but the Gunners move ahead on goals scored.
The pressure is piling on Sarri who will still hope to be in the Chelsea hot seat as they look to bounce back in their next game at Malmo on Thursday in a Europa League round-of-32 tie.
Chelsea will also have the chance to inflict revenge on City at the end of February when they take on the Premier League champions in the final of the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
