Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he listened to Adele's James Bond anthem Skyfall to get a better grasp of the English language.

Following his first managerial spell at Espanyol, Pochettino was given his first chance to manage a Premier League club by taking over Nigel Adkins at Southampton in 2013.

Having spent the majority of his playing career in Spain, France and his homeland of Argentina, Pochettino initially struggled to pick up the English language and revealed that his two-hour tutor sessions were 'boring'.

In an interview with JOE, the Argentine manager reveals how he felt hopeless trying to learn the language after moving to the south coast of England before listening to self-proclaimed Spurs fan Adele sing the James Bond film anthem.

When talking about his move over to England, Pochettino said: 'She [his wife] found an English teacher for me and the first session – two hours long – was so boring.

'The tutor said, "Okay, we are going to try something a little different, let's learn with a song".

'She put on Adele's Skyfall, which is so tricky – as you can imagine – if you don't know anything about English. But every time I hear Skyfall now, I always think about that and smile.

'I had only one lesson and I thought "Impossible, I'm not going to be able to get this language".'

After making his move to St Mary's, the 46-year-old admitted that he struggled to acclimatise and would often have insomnia in the build up to his first days as boss.

'The most testing period was coming to England,' Pochettino added. 'The decision was not the hard part, but the adjustment. There were many nights when I could not sleep.

'I remember the first night in the hotel at Southampton, it was a Friday and the next day was going to be the first training session.

'I was so restless, tossing and not able to close my eyes. I took my phone, it will have been just before 4am, and I sent a WhatsApp to [assistant] Jesus [Perez]: "Are you awake?"

'Immediately there was the response, "Yes", so I told him, "Ok, come to my room, we talk". He came and I looked at him and just said "Jesus tomorrow".

'I did not know what to do. I couldn't say one word in English and I needed to put myself in front of about 50 people including the chairman. I was shaking.'

Pochettino enjoyed one year at Southampton before making his move to Tottenham where he has been ever since.

On Saturday, the Argentine boss will hope his Spurs side will look to overcome their bad form and beat fierce rivals Arsenal in the north London derby at Wembley.
