Real Madrid's veteran superstar midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have both confirmed they are staying at the club after Saturday night's Champions League triumph.

Shortly after the celebrations following Los Blancos' 1-0 win over Liverpool in Paris, 36-year-old Modric put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension until June next 2023, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Modric's decision was then followed comments from Kroos to Goal Espana, in which the 32-year-old said he would 'continue here at Madrid... two more years'.

On a glorious night for Real Madrid, who beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to Vinicius Jr's goal, Modric and Kroos again proved their age-defying class in midfield alongside their long-term partner Casemiro, who is himself 30.

On countless occasions the trio have been questioned over their age and fitness, but have proven themselves against the best teams in the world.

Real had to overcome Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool to lift their 14th Champions League title on Saturday, and Modric and Kroos have been integral to their success.

Modric has spent a decade at Real since moving from Tottenham and his desire to finish his career at the club is well known. Kroos joined from Bayern Munich in 2014. Both have now won an astonishing five Champions League titles.

Real Madrid have looked to be planning for life after Modric and Kroos, with Marco Asensio in the ranks and the club signing rising star Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes in the summer.

The Spanish champions are also in the box seat to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, ahead of Liverpool who also want the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Regardless of the reinforcements, it seems neither Modric nor Kroos are ready to call time on their careers in Madrid just yet.
