How Man Utd target Jadon Sancho compares to Daniel James

Speculation surrounding Jadon Sancho's future has ramped up recently following the teenager's run of poor form for Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old has scored just once in his last 12 appearances for Die Borussen and was hauled off in the first half of the club's last game against Bayern Munich.

"He was not injured, he trained yesterday. I had to go on what I was seeing and, to be honest, it was not good enough," Dortmund manager Lucien Favre said of his decision to withdraw Sancho.

And that incident has kicked the rumour mill into overdrive, with rumours linking Sancho with a return to England intensifying over the past week.

United have been interested in the former City youngster for a while and a recent report by The Guardian claimed Manchester United are weighing up a move for Sancho in January after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was alerted to the youngster's struggles in Germany.

Were United to sign Sancho, Daniel James' place in the team would likely be at risk, so we took to Wyscout to compare some of the two players' key statistics.

Despite Sancho's struggles of late, he has averaged more goals per game than James at the start of the season (0.38 to 0.21) and he has averaged more assists per game than United's No.21 (0.57 to 0.14).

James has been instrumental in United's mini revival but he has not found the net for the Reds since his opener at Southampton at the end of August.

Sancho averages more shots per game than James with 3.1 to the Welshman's 1.3, and the England youngster also hits the target with a higher percentage of those shots (55 per cent to 47 per cent).

Sancho's average xG per game (0.28) is higher than James' (0.15) and he also has a higher xA (0.28) than James (0.12).

James' dribbling stats are slightly more impressive than Sancho's. The United winger averages 6.11 dribbles per game to Sancho's 8.48 but his 55 per cent dribble success rate is much higher than Sancho's of 42 per cent.

James is also fouled far more often than Sancho (2.5 times per game in comparison to 0.67 times per game for Sancho).

Sancho, though is a far more accomplished passer of the ball than the former Swansea winger.

The Dortmund man averages far more passes per game than James (56 to 26) and his pass success rate is also significantly higher (86 per cent to 75 per cent).

Sancho attempts more than four times as many through balls per game as James (1.24 to 0.28) and his success rate with those through balls is higher at 31 per cent to 25 per cent for James.

In conclusion, Sancho has outperformed James in the vast majority of the key statistics we compared here, with James only coming out on top for successful dribble percentage and fouls won categories.
