Liverpool emerge as 'Werner's preferred destination' if he is to leave Leipzig

Liverpool have emerged as RB Leipzig star striker Timo Werner's preferred destination if he is to leave the Bundesliga leaders.

Werner's goals have propelled Leipzig to the top of the charts in Germany and he reportedly has a release clause of £51million.

And they go on to claim that this exit clause will decrease each year until his contract runs out in June 2023.

It appears likely he will try to force a Premier League move before then, according to Bild.

The 23-year-old has been in stunning form this season with 20 goals in just 18 appearances in the league.

He is seen as an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp's juggernaut, and there are already good relations established between the two clubs following Naby Keita's move in 2018.

This follows reports from the weekend that suggested Liverpool would challenge Chelsea for the German international.

Werner recently admitted to Bild that he is attracted by a potential move to England: 'The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say.

'There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there.'
