Newcastle 'bid £36million for Hoffenheim star'

Newcastle United have revived their bid to sign Brazilian striker Joelinton but want to get a deal agreed this week.

Mike Ashley is prepared to release £36million for the powerful 22-year-old Hoffenheim forward but wants to avoid more protracted negotiations.

Newcastle first made their interest in Joelinton known in January and have maintained interest though Hoffenheim have been pushing for £40million.

Ashley is hoping to conclude talks with Sheffield Wednesday for Steve Bruce and his coaching staff today and ideally would like to present his new manager with a striker to replace the departed Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon.

Perez joined Leicester City for £30million last week while West Brom striker Rondon, who was on loan at Newcastle last season and has a £16.5m clause, is expected to join up with former boss Rafa Benitez at Dalian Yifang.

Joelinton scored 11 goals last season in 35 appearances and also has interest from Premier League Wolves, however, they too are reluctant to pay Hoffenheim's asking price.
