Rangers have joined the chase for Manchester City’s England youth international striker Charlie McNeill.

The prolific 16-year old is leaving City after six years following a breakdown in talks over a new deal and concerns about his career pathway.

McNeill has been discussed by Manchester United and Red Bull Leipzig but Sportsmail understands Rangers will now try and lure him to Ibrox.

Talks are understood to have taken place at the weekend in what could prove a coup for Steven Gerrard’s side.

McNeill has scored around 600 goals over the past six years at youth level which has also drawn attention from Italian champions Juventus.

However, pivotal to his next move will be finding a club where he believes he will be given a chance of progressing to the first team.

Meanwhile, City are among the clubs showing an interest in Rangers’ academy winger Dire Mebude.

The interest comes as City’s 16-year old winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is discussing a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Sporting Lisbon are also hopeful of concluding a two year loan deal for City full-back Pedro Porro. The 20-year old was on loan at Real Valladolid last season.
