Sebastian Haller is set to have a medical with West Ham on Tuesday after they agreed a £42.5m fee with Frankfurt for the French striker.

West Ham are on the verge of landing the 25 year-old in a deal that would make Haller their most-expensive signing ever.

West Ham will pay an initial £36m for Haller with a further £6.5m due in add-ons.

The two clubs have been locked in talks since last week when West Ham turned to Haller in their bid to sign a new frontman.

Their need increased after they sold Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG in a cut-price £22.4m deal.

They have also released Andy Carroll and sold Lucas Perez this summer.

They initially attempted to hijack Maxi Gomez’s move to Valencia but were unable to agree a deal with Celta Vigo.

Another target, Napoli’s Duvan Zapata, is not for sale while Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson is set to sign a new contract to extend his stay at The Vitality Stadium.

That led West Ham to Haller who scored 20 goals in 41 appearances last season.

Haller was understood to have initially had reservations about moving to England but by last Friday their was optimism from all sides that a deal would be done.

Sportsmail revealed in June that Manchester United had also identified Haller as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
