Why Lewandowski rejected Man Utd and Chelsea transfer offers

At various points in recent years, when Premier League clubs have been on the hunt for a new striker, the name of Robert Lewandowski has often been at the top of various shortlists.

Chelsea , when eyeing a replacement for Diego Costa, were keen on the Polish hitman.

Manchester United too, at various points during Lewandowski's time scoring goals galore for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, have also kept tabs on his situation and made overtures.

Yet Lewandowski, now 30, has always steered clear from moving to England since making his name in Germany.

In truth, the man with 276 goals in 405 games for BVB and Bayern has never really showing any inclination to head to the Premier League ever since the volcanic ash cloud of 2010 stopped Blackburn's hopes of landing the then largely unknown Lech Poznan striker in their tracks.

And the fact of the matter, according to the player's long-time, now former, agent, Cesary Kucharski, is that Lewandowski has only ever been interested in making one move.

"He had many offers," says Kucharski, speaking in Polish daily Pilka Nozna. "The thing is, his wife did not want to go to France (to PSG) - and both did not want to go to England.

"For Robert, only the Spanish sun counted, and only Real Madrid ."

Lewandowski joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, swapping the North Rhine for Bavaria on a free transfer.

He is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2021, despite the Poland captain having made no secret in recent years of his desire to join the Spanish giants.

That desire is understood to have been part of Lewandowski's reasoning for splitting from Kucharski and partnering with Pini Zahavi.

Asked why Lewandowski's dream move never came to fruition under his stewardship, Kucharski added: "We could have fought for the transfer. But there was a risk that our actions would not be enough to bring him to Madrid or sign a much better deal with Bayern.

“In football business, I never wanted to risk my client."

Lewandowski already has 22 goals in 24 games for Bayern this season.
