Messi's Copa del Rey record as he celebrates 35th Barcelona trophy

  /  autty

Saturday's Copa del Rey final was a special one for Lionel Messi. Not only did he pick up his 35th trophy as a Barcelona player, but he did it by breaking a competition record.

The Argentine scored Barcelona's last two goals in the 4-0 win over Athletic Club, both typically effortless finishes.

In doing so, he became the top scorer in Copa del Rey final history, overtaking Zarra at the top of the standings on nine goals.

Messi's two goals in Seville take him up to 31 in all competitions, with several fixtures remaining in LaLiga Santander.

This season's Copa del Rey is his 35th title with Barcelona and his first in two years.
