Nobody survives here: Real Madrid are a disaster

Kiev, where Real Madrid lifted their 13th Champions League title, turned into a scene of disaster for Los Blancos who suffered another embarrassing defeat against the weakest team in Group B, Shakhtar Donetsk.

All five Shakhtar goals this season in Europe were scored against Thibaut Courtois, as the Ukrainian side have managed to beat Zinedine Zidane's men twice.

Following a decent start to the game, Real Madrid were poor in defence after the break and a miscommunication in the box between Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez led to Shakhtar's opener.

Real Madrid have already lost five times in just 15 games this season. It seems that neither Zidane can find the right formula, nor the players can live up to the expectations.

Another humiliating defeat for Los Blancos who lost to Alaves last Saturday and are set to play to two crucial games against Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach in a matter of eight days.

Dentinho's goal was a gift by Real Madrid's defence as neither Ferland Mendy nor Varane managed to clear out a pass in Courtois' box and the Brazilian took advantage of a loose ball to net Shakhtar's opener.

The French centre-back has struggled for another game without Sergio Ramos alongside him in defence.

Courtois has only managed four clean sheets in 15 games so far this season although the Belgian goalkeeper has been solid between the goalposts in the majority of those matches. He produced a good save to deny Taison against Shakhtar with the score at 0-0.

Marco Asensio put in a decent performance against the Ukrainian side. He was confident in attack, playing in his natural position on the left side.

The Spanish forward was involved in Real Madrid's clearest chances in the game, producing two shots, one which crashed against the post and another that was saved by Anatoliy Trubin.

Nacho misplaced a pass which was intercepted by Junior Moraes who was brought down by Varane who received a yellow card as the last man.

Moraes suffered an injury and Varane apologised twice to his opponent, who returned to the pitch after being treated by his team's medical staff but had to be replaced by Dentinho although he didn't agree with his coach's decision to sub him off.
