Jude Bellingham admits his 'biggest dream' would be emulating Harry Kane as England captain, but accepts it will take time for the ambition to bear fruit.
Bellingham has put in some impressive displays in the national shirt, in their wins away in Italy on Thursday and at home to Ukraine on Sunday.
And while the 19-year-old has already captained his club Borussia Dortmund for some matches, he has his sights set on wearing the armband for his country - even if there are plenty of other candidates ahead of him for the role.
When Channel 4 posed the question to the midfielder after the 2-0 win at Wembley, Bellingham replied: 'That would be the biggest dream and the biggest honour in football I think is to captain your country.
'There's a long pecking order that I highly respect and I'll wait my turn. In the meantime it's picking up what I can learn from them. This is the best place to do it.'
In the wake of the two-goal win, Bellingham also hailed the mood in the camp, as he believes they are capable of turning out tough results when required, as well as a degree of bringing the beautiful game to England matches.
Bellingham said: 'It feels like we have a really good atmosphere in the changing room.
'We want to express ourselves but there's a side of us with a bit of nastiness. We need to cover all sides of the game and I think we're doing that really well at the moment.'
After two wins from their opening Euro 2024 qualifiers, England sit top of Group C, in a quintet which also includes North Macedonia and Malta alongside the teams the Three Lions have beaten this week.
Bellingham now returns to domestic duty, where Borussia Dortmund face a tasty challenge next weekend when they take on Bayern Munich in Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge of the hosts.
