Benfica admit it is “unlikely” they will return for Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin in January after his failed medical.
Benfica passed up Perin over the summer after a shoulder problem came up during medical tests, but the Portuguese champions suggested they would wait for the 26-year-old if he made a full recovery.
However, President Luis Filipe Vieira told TVI: “I have to say that it was a situation that had never happened before.
“We went to Italy, we found an agreement with Juventus, we negotiated with his agaent when we returned to Italy, agreeing a five-year contract with him, and that day, when he was having his medical, something went wrong.
“Honestly, it was bad for us and the player. We all really liked Perin but now, after his physical problems, it’s unlikely we’ll think about him again.”
