Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg have confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new manager just days after Patrick Vieira sensationally left the French side.

The former Hull City boss, 40, has signed on a three-year deal, the Ligue 1 side confirmed this afternoon.

Rosenior, who made 393 club appearances and featured for England's under-21s, said: 'I am happy to join Racing, a historic French club, with supporters renowned for their passion and loyalty.

'I will do everything to make La Meinau (Strasbourg's stadium) proud of its team and its players. I can't wait to get to work.'

Club president Marc Keller said: 'We are happy to welcome Liam, a young coach recognised for his ability to make his teams play well and help his players progress.

'His arrival will allow Racing to continue to grow. We welcome him to Alsace.'

Last week Mail Sport revealed that Rosenior was in advanced talks with the French club, who finished 13th in the league after losing the final three matches.

The French side, who are a part of the BlueCo ownership group, were impressed with the English manager who guided the Yorkshire side to a seventh-placed finish in the Championship.

Rosenior was nominated for the Championship Manager of the 2023-24 season award but placed third behind Leeds United boss Daniel Farke and winner Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town.

Before life as a coach, Rosenior enjoyed a 16-year playing career as a full-back, featuring for the likes of Bristol City, Fulham, Hull, and Brighton and Hove Albion.

He decided to step away from the game while on the south coast in 2018 and transitioned straight into coaching within Brighton's academy.

In 2019, Rosenior joined the backroom staff at Derby County before working his way up to the managerial position on an interim basis in June 2022.

His time in the position was short-lived as he left in September of the same year, but only two months later he was appointed by Hull as head coach, on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

He departed two months ago after Hull finished just three points away from the play-off places in the second tier.

Strasbourg finished 13th in Ligue 1 in Vieira's only season in charge but two months later he departed in a similar fashion to that of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

The French club were acquired by BlueCo just last year joining the Blues in the new multi-club ownership model.
