Ronaldo cannot hide his disgust after being subbed by Rangnick in win

Cristiano Ronaldo had a face like thunder after he was substituted by Ralf Rangnick in the second half of Manchester United's 3-1 win over Brentford.

The Portuguese delivered a lovely chest pass for Bruno Fernandes in the lead up to Mason Greenwood's goal but struggled to make a major impact on the game.

He was visibly frustrated at having to come off in the 71st minute for Harry Maguire as the manager shut up shop.

Footage showed Ronaldo sitting on the bench and talking to someone out of camera shot. He repeatedly pointed at himself as if to say 'why me?'

When he came off the pitch he was given his tracksuit by a member of the backroom staff and threw it on the floor.

Rangnick was asked about the substitution and Ronaldo's reaction after the game and said: 'It is normal as a striker, he wants to score goals but he has just come back from an injury so it is important to have him for another game soon.

'I think it was the right decision and we scored the third goal. We conceded a goal but did not allow anything else.'

In the BT Sport studio, Rio Ferdinand added: 'Ronaldo was thinking, "I want to score goals and they're there for the taking"'.

'You see the disappointment, the manager handled it well and is talking about the bigger picture.'

Rangnick has demonstrated that he is not afraid of making big decisions, putting club captain Maguire on the bench along with Marcus Rashford, who came on to score.

Ronaldo has previously fallen out with coaches for bringing him off early but the manager clearly feels he needs to look after the 36-year-old.

Next up for United is a home game at Old Trafford against fellow Champions League-chasing West Ham.
