Frenkie de Jong was presented as a Barcelona player on Friday afternoon as long term girlfriend Mikky Kiemeney stood by his side.
Kiemeney, a former Hockey player for Dutch side HC Den Bosch, first met Frenkie in high school and they have been together ever since.
De Jong started his career with Willem II and his girlfriend watched him progress through the youth ranks before making his first team debut in May 2015, playing 22 minutes against ADO Den Haag.
He then joined Ajax three months later for for just €1 as well as some players moving on loan in the opposite direction.
A 10% sell-on clause was also inserted in the four-year contract as he flourished in the B team before becoming one of the most highly rated midfielders in world football.
Ajax went on to agree a fee on a summer transfer with Barcelona for €75 million and his dream became a reality.
To put De Jong's incredible move into perspective, he and his partner Kiemeney went to the Camp Nou as fans in 2015.
Kiemeney posted the following on her Instagram last month to celebrate his move:
"30th November 2015: We went to the Camp Nou as fans, and watched a game of your dream club."
"23 January 2019: The day that you can tell the world you're going to play for your dream club. You made that big dream reality. I can't wait to enjoy every minute of it together. we're gonna live your dream." she said.
Four years on, De Jong made his presentation in front of 20,000 fans look easy as a proud Mikky looked on.
"This has always been a dream for me since I was small and when I saw it was happening for real it was an easy decision for me." he said earlier this week.
What a journey it has been, for both of them.
