Kieran Trippier scored a calamitous own goal in Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
Spurs were 1-0 down with seven minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge when Trippier misplaced a backpass which trickled agonisingly beyond onrushing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Football fans took to social media to poke fun at the full-back whose own goal killed off hopes of Tottenham mounting a title charge this season.
One person tweeted a video of the goal with commentary from his World Cup semi-final strike for England against Croatia dubbed over the top.
Another fan posted: 'Me working out how many points Lloris and Trippier have cost us this season.'
Meanwhile, Chelsea fans took delight in the Spurs man's mistake, with one posting a GIF of Ray Liotta laughing hysterically in Goodfellas.
Another person took the time to edit Trippier's Wikipedia page, altering the 'Senior career' section to include one appearance and one goal for Chelsea.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri decided to drop goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after his theatrics at Wembley, and Pedro's low strike had gave Chelsea the lead on 57 minutes.
Trippier's late own goal condemned Tottenham to defeat and leaves Mauricio Pochettino's men nine points behind Liverpool in third.
