Liverpool's new front three 'younger, faster & stronger' than Salah-Firmino-Mane

Liverpool's attack has become 'younger, faster and stronger' since Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez replaced Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in their front three, says Troy Deeney.

Gakpo and Nunez both scored twice in the Reds' sensational 7-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, while Mohamed Salah was also on hand with a brace of his own.

In the dying minutes of the game Firmino, who is set to leave Anfield after eight years at the end of the season, came off the bench and added their seventh to compound United's misery.

Though despite the Brazilian's late contribution, Deeney believes Jurgen Klopp's frontline is now in better shape with Gakpo and Nunez alongside Salah, claiming they are fresher than the previous Salah-Firmino-Mane triumvirate.

'They're younger, faster and stronger than the last front three. Gakpo through the middle is like a new 2.0 of Bobby Firmino,' the former Watford striker said on Match of the Day 2.

'The three of them occupy the top line. [Gakpo] is like a young Thierry Henry there with his finish.

'The three of them occupy that backline and the best thing is there is always one in the middle of the goal. This is Liverpool for me at their best.'

Salah, Firmino and Mane, who left to join Bayern Munich last summer, formed one of the strongest attacking trios in Liverpool's history, helping the club win Premier League and Champions League titles at their peak.

Klopp will now be hoping to see Gakpo and Nunez enjoy similar success alongside Salah, and the Reds boss was delighted with what he saw on Sunday.

'No words, spectacular football game,' he said on Sky Sports.

'We played top football against a team in form. First half got a bit wild in a way we didn't want, then we score this incredible goal [through Gakpo], what a pass what a finish.

'Second half, the start was pretty good, everything was pretty good. United have had a super season we are not happy with our season but in this game that doesn’t mean anything.

'Important three points. Its important we really perform. Top performance from everybody.'
