Mesut Ozil has teamed up with his former Arsenal team-mate Matthieu Flamini to launch their own range of environmentally-friendly men well-being products.
The duo launched their new brand UNITY, a personal care range of 11 vegan friendly products, on Tuesday night in Covent Garden.
Ozil said: ‘I think footballers are more socially aware nowadays. Outside of football I think footballers do a lot of social work,’ told Sportsmail.
‘I’m aware I have a huge fanbase in the world and that a lot of people look at what I do, they follow me.
‘So I know maybe I can effect a little bit how they see things from their side. I think it’s important, if you have the opportunity to do it, you should.
‘If we believe in it, then why not try and bring the message to others and the world.
‘I always looked up to Matthieu, he has more experience than me. When I arrived in Arsenal he helped me settle in London, he was like an older brother to me. And he always talking about sustainability, saving the planet.’
Flamini added: ‘We are good friends, that’s how it started. I’ve been involved in sustainability for 10 years, but Mesut has been involved in social equality now for many years.
'So what we wanted to do was start a brand that stands up for the planet and the people, to create something that is for people and the planet.
