Premier League fans' verdict: Arsenal direction remains hard to fathom

  /  autty

Another scintillating weekend of Premier League action saw Liverpool  maintain their perfect start with a comfortable win over Southampton.

Chelsea meanwhile lost their 100 per cent start after being held at West Ham, while Burnley earned their first win by thrashing Bournemouth.

Here, Sportsmail gets the fans' verdicts from all 20 top flight sides following the latest round of action...

FULHAM

Russ Goldman (Cottage Talk)

Fulham struggled to deal with Watford's press and were fortunate to only be losing by one goal at half-time. Slavisa Jokanovic changed the formation at half-time and that changed the game.

The goal by Aleksandar Mitrovic was coming for a while and he had two chances late on to get a winner. A good point.

Star man: Aleksandar Mitrovic

WATFORD

David Anderson (Golden Pages Fanzine)

Two points dropped. We were the better team in every position for the majority of the game and should have been out of sight early on.

The Craven Cottage crowd were blaming the referee throughout but they should have been down to 10 men in the first half after Timothy Fosu-Mensah's fouls. We could have had penalties for the challenges on Will Hughes and Troy Deeney. The win was there for the taking so this was a very disappointing result.

Star man: Etienne Capoue

BURNLEY

Tony Scholes (Up The Clarets)

At last we've won. It's been far too long coming but what a way to do it with our biggest ever Premier League win and against a side who have started the season so well.

It was brilliant to see and maybe the four goal margin might be flattering but who cares? We've finally won and hopefully can now build on that.

Star man: Aaron Lennon

BOURNEMOUTH

Peter Bell (Cherry Chimes)

Howe was spoilt for choice in who to take off at half-time. Letting in six goals in their last two games is worrying. It's a good job Bournemouth already have 10 points on the board.

Losing to Burnley is no disgrace, but the manner of the goals and the lack of finishing from our strikers was quite astonishing. The calls for Lewis Cook to start, I fear, will fall on deaf ears. Dan Gosling is the player Bournemouth missed.

Star man: David Brooks

CARDIFF

Callum Ellis (Inside Wales Sport)

On a day where there were two shades of blue on the pitch, it was easy to distinguish the gulf in class between the Bluebirds and the Sky Blues. Pep Guardiola's men took their time to get in the goal scoring mood, but after Aguero broke the deadlock, the floodgates opened.

The champions were a joy to watch as they dominated on a wet day in South Wales. Gundogan run the show for the visitors and netted a goal of real class. Our season starts against Burnley next week.

Star man: Bruno Ecuele Manga

MANCHESTER CITY

Steven Allweis (View From A Blue)

From the moment that Aguero emphatically put us ahead, this was a ruthless performance. By the end, you almost felt sorry for Cardiff.

We were brilliant with Bernardo controlling the game, Gundogan putting in his best showing in a long time and Sterling a constant menace. If we had needed to score more, we could have done with ease. It was another one of those days where we were somewhere near our best and made the game look effortless.

Star man: Bernardo Silva

CRYSTAL PALACE

Jay Crame (The Eagles Beak)

A game that we really should have won based on the chances that we created, but the miss from Mamadou Sakho really was quite something.

The visitors hardly threatened in poor conditions and were there for the taking so it was disappointing not to have found a way through.

Star man: Luka Milivojevic

NEWCASTLE

Tom Bore (Read Newcastle)

The Geordie faithful are becoming agitated after another week without a win. Mike Ashley was in attendance but his visit was not welcome.

Newcastle did look solid and composed at the back but Crystal Palace will feel unlucky not to have taken all three points. We did not look like scoring... again.

Star man: Federico Fernandez

LEICESTER

Warwick Kay (LCFC World)

After a sloppy start with some poor defending again, Leicester dominated the game with Mendy and Maddison running the show in midfield.

It's like having a new signing with Mendy, who is now showing the form and justifying why Ranieri signed him. Maddison is looking a class signing and gets better every game.

Star man: Nampalys Mendy

HUDDERSFIELD

Harry Greenwood (Better Than Klopp)

After a good display last week, it was two steps back. We got the lead through another set piece, but the goals we conceded were preventable. To leave holes against a side like Leicester who are so strong on the break is criminal.

Yet again we struggled to create, and even when we did, we weren't clinical enough. We're seriously void of any confidence or quality and things have to change soon.

Star man: Philip Billing

LIVERPOOL

Dave Usher (The Liverpool Way)

It wass nice to have a game wrapped up early for once and not have to deal with any late drama. Too many have needlessly gone down to the wire of late, but this was much more like it. Alisson didn't even have to make a save until stoppage time.

The front three showed flashes that suggest they might be about to explode again, while Xherdan Shaqiri proved that he's a useful weapon when deployed alongside them. If the Reds are still top after their two games (Chelsea and City) they might stay there all season.

Star man: Xherdan Shaqiri

SOUTHAMPTON

Amey Adams (Fresh Saints)

It is nigh on impossible to take away anything positive from this game - and going in at half-time trailing by three goals just about sums it all up.

We looked lethargic on the ball, sluggish at the back and void of creativity in the final third. The absence of Danny Ings was significant as we fielded a side lacking any proven goalscorers. With Klopp's side mounting a potential title challenge, Wolves will be the real test next week.

Star man: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

MANCHESTER UNITED

Sam Peoples (The Peoples Person)

United dropped two more points at home against Wolves and can only blame themselves.

There was a real lack of cutting edge right when it mattered and with Liverpool and City breezing past Cardiff and Southampton, that game showed exactly why United aren't in the title chase once again.

Star man: Nobody

WOLVES

Ben Husband (Wolves Fancast)

Wolves have now gone toe to toe with last year's top two. Not only are they still standing but will rue missed chances to win the game.

They dominated Mourinho's men and showed the courage to come from behind when the stunning Joao Moutinho curled home. If there was a midfielder worth £100m on the Old Trafford pitch it was the Portuguese sensation.

Star man: Joao Moutinho

BRIGHTON

Simon Cox (Brighton Fans)

We were always second best so no complaints but you sometimes feel that refs are 'Top Sixers'. Every 50-50 decision goes to the money.

Having said that, we created very little so can't complain too much. Kane is brilliant on and off the ball and made the difference. Maybe one day we can bring through a genius. In the meantime, I will settle for Knockaert who works incredibly hard. Great goal, too late.

Star man: Anthony Knockaert

TOTTENHAM

Barnaby Slater

It was all set up for Spurs to lose their fourth game in a row. Thankfully the resolute, strong Tottenham of the past three years turned up for 93 minutes rather than the brittle version that showed itself against Watford and Liverpool.

A great three points in a downpour.

Star man: Toby Alderweireld

WEST HAM

Michael Oliver (Read West Ham)

After their sensational win last week, the Hammers had renewed confidence as they welcomed Chelsea to the London Stadium. It appears as if Pellegrini has found his ideal back four as they keep their first clean sheet of the season against the Blues who had been scoring for fun.

If not for a handful of near misses, West Ham could have escaped with all three points but this display will give them the belief that they can beat Manchester United next week.

Star man: Declan Rice

CHELSEA

Andy Seaby (Chelsea Daft)

Horrible performance, lacked ideas in the final third and looked the same as 12 months ago here. You can have all the possession you want but it's what you MUST do with it and today was really, really poor.

West Ham defended from the off but still had the best chances to score especially a header from close range late on. Awful and Maurizio Sarri will not be a happy man!

Star man: Eden Hazard

ARSENAL

Peter Wood (Le Grove)

The first 45 minutes were embarrassing. Everton exploited us with their pace and going forward Arsenal were savagely poor.

Lacazette worked hard and delivered the finish of the month in an improved second half but Emery's vision is still hard to fathom after plodding to another victory.

Star man: Alexandre Lacazette

EVERTON

Joel Parker (Toffee Analysis)

Same old Everton. I'm in disbelief that we didn't score in that game, a great first half performance and good chances being created wasn't capitalised against a shaky-looking Arsenal.

Lacazette's strike was stunning but how Aubameyang's goal was given and not ruled for offside is beyond me. The sooner VAR is brought in, the better for the Premier League. Bitterly disappointing afternoon but good to see Everton finally attacking away to a top team.

Star man: Richarlison
