Saido Berahino to sign for Belgian club Zulte Waregem after released by Stoke

Saido Berahino will sign for Belgian club Zulte Waregem as he looks to revive his career.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Thursday how Stoke had been forced to abandon plans to sack Berahino following his drink driving conviction earlier this year.

Instead the Potters agreed to pay the striker a seven-figure sum of just under half the £5million that remained on his contract to facilitate his exit.

The delay in finalising Berahino's release meant the 26-year-old's future has been in limbo as he couldn't sign for a new club while the Potters still held his registration.

But the former England Under-21 star will sign a contract with Zulte, where he has spent the last three weeks on training.

French club Nimes were also interested in the ex-West Brom front-man, who was the subject of stinging criticism from former Stoke team-mate Glen Johnson on Thursday.

Johnson accused Berahino of having an attitude problem on talkSPORT, saying: 'He had the wrong mentality, the wrong attitude from day one.

'Considering they paid him up with three years left to go tells you everything you know.

'If I was the manager or owner of a club I wouldn't take him if they paid me to play him.'
