The 26-year-old is well known to head coach Regis Le Bris, with the pair having worked together at French club Lorient and now the Black Cats have swooped in to take him from the Serie A to the Premier League.

This according to journalist Fabrizio Romano who reports that the deal has been agreed as fans eagerly await for him to put pen to paper.

“Armand Laurienté to Sunderland, here we go! Deal agreed with Sassuolo for French winger.

“Understand #SAFC will pay €20m fixed fee, no add-ons. Personal terms also agreed.

“New winger for Sunderland, as planned.”

The French striker hit 18 goals last season as they clinched the Serie B title and promotion back to the top-flight. A versatile forward, Laurienté is comfortable on both the left wing or playing through the middle as a central striker which will prove useful for Sunderland as they fight against promotion.

Sunderland currently have Wilson Isisdor and Eliezer Mayenda as their two striker options but neither have played at the top level. Sassuolo purchased him from Lorient in 2022 for €10.1m plus bonuses and stand to make a profit on the winger who will be hoping to make an impact on England’s top division.
