Aston Villa produced a memorable second-half comeback as they took a 2-1 lead in their Championship play-off semi-final against West Brom.

Dwight Gayle, who was later sent off, capitalised on a horrible error from Glenn Whelan to give the Baggies the lead after 16 minutes with a powerful finish.

Substitute Conor Hourihane struck a sensational effort from 25 yards to bring Dean Smith's side level before the hosts won a penalty just minutes later when Kieran Gibbs fouled Jack Grealish.

Tammy Abraham stepped up and coolly slotted home to put Villa ahead on aggregate before the return leg on Tuesday night.
