Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has branded James Rodriguez 'egotistical' and 'disrespectful' after the club's poor start to the season.
The Bundesliga giants are without a win in four games under new coach Niko Kovac and slumped to a 3-0 home defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, heaping further pressure on the Croatian.
But Bayern and Germany icon Matthaus has instead aimed his ire at the club's under-performing stars such as Rodriguez, who he slammed for what he deems to be a self-centred approach.
'Bayern have too many players only interested in themselves,' Matthaus told the Spanish media, via Football Espana.
'[James] is one of the players who place their individual importance above the club, then they complain when they are not playing enough.
'It is egotistical and it is disrespectful in respect to his coach, his club and his team-mates, he cannot react angrily because [manager] Kovac does not put his arm around him like [former boss Jupp] Heynckes did.'
Colombia international Rodriguez is now into the second year of a two-year loan deal at the Allianz Arena from Real Madrid.
Despite a strong start to life in Germany, he has made just three Bundesliga starts so far this season, including the recent defeats to both Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Rodriguez and Bayern face a trip to Wolfsburg next Saturday in their first game back after the international break.
