Cavani made gestures towards Manchester United fans after the club's final game of the 2021/22 season...

Manchester United's 2021/22 season ended on a bitter note both on and off the field.

After a disappointing loss against Crystal Palace in their final Premier League game, Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani was seen showing a rude gesture to a set of Manchester United fans outside the stadium.

Cavani had started in the match but failed to find the back of the net as the Red Devils succumbed to a loss. After the game, he was seen displaying a rude gesture at his own fans who were most likely heckling him.

There have been multiple incidents in the past where players got involved in fights and altercations with their own fans.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The veteran defender got involved in a fight with Chelsea fans after the Blues' Premier League clash against Arsenal ended in a 2-4 defeat in April 2022. After the match, Azpilicueta was seen pointing at a Chelsea fan and was involved in a verbal confrontation.

Neymar

The incident happened in April 2019 during a Coupe de France final match. Neymar, along with his PSG teammates, were collecting the runners-up medals after they lost to Rennes in the penalty shootout. When Neymar went ahead and collected his medal, a PSG fan said something to him in frustration and the Brazilian thrust his hand toward the fan in anger. Neymar later apologised for his behaviour.

Granit Xhaka

In 2019, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka got involved in a spat with the fans during a Premier League tie against Crystal Palace. The Gunners threw away a two-goal lead to lose the tie 3-2. During the course of the game, Xhaka, then Arsenal skipper, was taken off by coach Unai Emery. As the Swiss midfielder walked out of the pitch, Arsenal fans were seen booing their captain. In reaction, Xhaka cupped his ears to the fans, angrily threw his shirt on the pitch and before heading out. He would end up losing his captaincy over this incident.

David Beckham

The incident happened during an exhibition match between LA Galaxy and AC Milan on July 20, 2009. Before the match, it was reported that Beckham would move to Milan on loan in the summer of 2009. The news angered the Galaxy fans who taunted and chanted against the Englishman during the match. At halftime, Beckham was seen confronting a section of the fans as he tried to climb over a signboard while challenging them.

Micah Richards

In January 2016, then Aston Villa skipper Micah Richards got involved in a confrontation with the club fans during a FA Cup third round clash against Wycombe Wanderers. After the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Richards got involved in a verbal confrontation after the team got booed by the travelling Villa fans.

Eric Dier

The England international was seen chasing a Spurs fan into the stands to confront him after a Premier League tie between Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City in July 2020. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

It so happened that Dier's brother Patrick was in the stands when a fan hurled abuses at the player to which his brother reacted and grabbed the fan. After the match, Dier went over to the stands to chase away the fan. The FA banned the footballer for four games for violent conduct.

Marcus Rashford

The English forward was seen confronting Manchester United fans after the Red Devils were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 by Atletico Madrid in March 2022. Rashford later released a statement where he explained his actions and claimed to have been heckled by the fans from the very first minute of the second leg tie against Atletico.

Brian Clough

Nottingham Forest's legendary manager Brian Clough got involved in a fight with the club fans in 1989 during a Littlewoods Cup quarterfinal game against QPR. Nottingham comfortably won the tie 5-2 to seal their semifinal berth. The club fans were so elated with the result that they invaded the pitch after the match. To stop the madness, Clough took things into his own hands and assaulted four Nottingham fans on the field.

Patrice Evra

Just minutes ahead of an Europa League tie against Vitoria Guimaraes in 2017, former Manchester United and then Marseille left-back got involved in a fight with his own club fans. Evera was seen attempting an acrobatic kick at a Marseille fan. It was reported that for nearly half an hour before the incident the fans were jeering the French full-back while he was warming up along with his teammates.

Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan in his final game for Manchester United was seen making the middle finger gesture toward Manchester United fans. It was the last match of the season and the Red Devils lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace. After the game when the players were getting ready to board the team bus, Cavani was seen making the gesture toward the fans.
