Brais Mendez: The players know the coach can call on anyone at any time

It was a night to forget for most who endured it, but Spain's 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina will always be remembered by Brais Mendez who debuted for La Roja and scored the game's only goal.

The Celta Vigo midfielder was understandably delighted to get off the mark for his country and says that Luis Enrique has made it clear that he can call up anyone who is showing promise for their club.

"It's stimulating [to be called up by Luis Enrique]," he said afterwards.

"We know he can call up anyone at any time."

Brais Mendez also commented on his happiness to get up and running in a Spain shirt.

"I'm very happy for my debut," he added.

"But also for the goal, which helped the team."

Life under Luis Enrique started so well for Spain, but has slowed down in recent matches.

However, the midfielder is confident that things are moving along nicely.

"It's not a race from today until tomorrow," he said.

"The project is medium-term.

"We are all with the coach, taking on his ideas and that is the important thing."

The win over Bosnia and Herzegovina was Spain's final fixture of 2018.
