Attacking-midfielder Bruno Fernandes has sensationally revealed why he knew Anthony Martial would score in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Frenchman, who was one of three players recalled to the starting line-up following last weekend's 1-0 defeat at West Ham United, scored the opening goal of the game shortly past the half-hour mark. He turned the ball home from close quarters after receiving a square pass from Antony inside the penalty area.
It marked his second goal in United's last three Premier League home games and his eighth goal of the campaign in all competitions. He was deployed through the middle of United's front-three and produced a solid performance up until being taken off with just 20 over minutes left.
Though Antony provided the assist for his goal, it was the vision of Fernandes that made it possible, with the Portuguese ace slipping in the former to put the ball on a plate for Martial to score. And Fernandes was convinced that the former AS Monaco man would get himself on the scoresheet, joking that he scores every time he has a haircut.
"It's about time he got back on the scoresheet," Fernandes said, speaking to MUTV. "I've been saying to him I knew he was going to score today because he had his haircut with our barber and every time he has a haircut with him, he scores a goal.
"I will call him every time now to make sure he goes the day before the game for a haircut because we need this Anthony. We need the Anthony that can score goals, that gives us a lot of quality on the ball and create a lot of space.
"I'm really pleased for his goal. I will book from now until the end of the season, all of the haircuts."
Martial, who could be sold by United this summer, has featured in each of the Reds' last nine Premier League fixtures, offering optimism that he has put the worst of his injury problems behind him. He will now be hoping to build on his goal against Wolves and end the campaign with a flourish.
