Busquets talks up a possible Messi reunion in MLS at Beckham's Inter Miami

Lionel Messi is expected to join David Beckham's Inter Miami team next year and if Spain and Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has his way, he'll one day be joining him.

Busquets and Messi played together in an all-conquering Barcelona team until 2021, when financial issues at the LaLiga team meant it could not extend Messi's contract and he moved to French team Paris Saint-Germain.

As reported by Sportsmail on Sunday, Messi is expected to complete a stunning switch to Major League Soccer at the end of the 2022-23 European season and sign for David Beckham's Inter Miami team.

And there might be another star that wants to follow him in Busquets, whose own Barcelona deal is up at the end of the season.

'I know it's the last year but I have always said that I have nothing signed with anyone,' Busquets told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

'I would like to have some certainty by February. I have always said I would like to play in the United States, above all in Miami, but from there I have not reached any agreement with any club - in the US or in any other league.

'Barcelona will be the first to know. When I have made a decision, I will tell them.'

The 34-year-old Busquets has spent his entire career at Barcelona, winning the Spanish league eight times and the Champions League three times.

He is currently playing for and captaining Spain at the World Cup, and was part of the 2010 World Cup winning team - as well as the 2012 side that lifted the European Championship.

Miami, meanwhile, has only been in existence for three seasons and is coached by former Manchester United and England defender Phil Neville.

Miami made the playoffs but was beaten by New York City.
