Danny Rose has asked to return to Tottenham's first-team squad following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Monday.

The defender, who had been outcast since Mourinho's arrival at Spurs, turned up to the club's training ground visibly in high spirits and even had a laugh with the Sky Sports cameras.

The presenter at the ground reporting on Mourinho's exit said: 'Danny Rose popped out of the back of a van and asked all of us 'what are you lot doing here?' before laughing and getting back in the van.'

Rose has not made a single appearance for the Tottenham first-team after Mourinho expelled him to the club's Under-23 set-up.

Their sour relationship was caught on camera during Tottenham's Amazon 'All Or Nothing' documentary, which showed footage of Rose arguing with the manager over his game time.

He complained: 'Other people have been s*** in training, s*** in games, but play every game and are in the squad every game.

'It's facts and the whole changing room know it's fact.'

The left-back and former England international was granted a loan move to Newcastle during the second half of the 2019/20 Premier League season but despite proving he can still cut it in the topflight, was left out of their plans amid his return in the summer.

Tottenham's signing of Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid all but sealed Rose's fate under the Portuguese tactician and he was subsequently shown the cold shoulder.

However, in the midst of Mourinho's surprise departure, the Telegraph have reported that he asked Ryan Mason, who is taking interim charge at Spurs, if he could rejoin the first-team for training sessions.

Rose is still eligible to play for the club despite not featuring for the senior squad in a long time, and would be able to be picked for their Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.

The defender is out of contract in the summer and looks destined for the exit door.
