Ferran Torres has apologised to Robert Lewandowski for a comment that he made about the striker in the build-up to Spain's Group E fixture with Poland.

Ferran came in for criticism after commenting on Radio MARCA that the Spain central defenders will devour Lewandowski during their Euro 2020 game.

"I respect Lewandowski and all strikers a lot," Ferran said in a press conference on Thursday morning.

"He is a reference for me. If I offended anyone I apologise."

The Manchester City forward commented on scoring the fourth goal in Spain's 5-0 win over Slovakia which saw them advance to the last 16.

"Yesterday's goal was very nice and it was special to celebrate it with the fans," Ferran continued. "It was really exciting for me."

Sergio Busquets put in a Man of the Match display on his comeback after isolating due to contracting Covid-19 and Torres was full of praise for the captain.

"It is a pleasure to play with Sergio Busquets," Ferran said. "Everything becomes easier.

"We all know the journey that he has had as a player, he has given this team a lot. We must enjoy his football and support him."

Torres went on to add that Spain never doubted their quality despite a tough start to Group E.

"We were calm from the first day," Ferran said, "because we knew that we were working very well, that the reward had to come and yesterday was the icing on the cake.

"Hard work pays off and now we must keep working because we have a big final [against Croatia]."
