'It was an absolute horror show' - Shearer slams City defence against Norwich

Manchester City's defence has been heavily criticised by former England star turned pundit Alan Shearer after the club's first defeat of the 2019/20 Premier League season at Norwich City.

“It was an absolute horror show defensively," Shearer told the BBC. "Starting with a set-piece again, zonal marking, (Kenny) McLean has a run at them from the edge of the box. Rodri, (Raheem) Sterling, (Kyle) Walker, their position is all wrong, they don't know he's coming in there and not one person attacks it. They don't move. McLean has run from the edge of the area and before Rodri moves, it's too late.

“What is (Nicolas) Otamendi doing for the second goal? He gambles and it fails. They're all over the place, Walker should be five yards further up and (John) Stones thinks he's going to play him offside.

“They get away with one because (Teemu) Pukki scuffs his shot wide but 30 seconds later they're in again. Otamendi has a look before he receives that ball and should know that (Emi) Buendia is there. That has to give the rest of the league encouragement.

“City's weakness is from set-pieces. From 29 goals conceded, 16 have been from set-pieces. That's 55.2 percent of them. They're miles away.”
