John Terry has given new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior a key piece of advice ahead of his first few weeks working with his new players.
The former Strasbourg head coach was announced as Enzo Maresca's successor on Tuesday, at a press conference held at the French club, where he had returned following talks with the Chelsea board over the weekend in London.
Rosenior pledged to manage the club with an emphasis on 'teamwork, unity, togetherness, and working for one another' as he explained his decision for switching between the two BlueCo-owned entities.
But former Blues captain Terry was keen to stress what he believes his number one priority should be upon arrival in west London.
'Liam Rosenior has been announced as the new Chelsea manager, signing a long contract until 2032. I'd just like to wish him all the very best and more importantly, let's hope we can get some success and some trophies, back to Stamford Bridge, and also get a bit of stability at the football club in the next couple of years,' Terry began in an address to-camera on TikTok.
'Hopefully he enables us to do this. But I'd like to wish him and his staff all the very best.
'You have an opportunity as a manager to come in the building, everyone, the players, are going to be looking,' Terry added. 'No doubt from a football perspective, all about results. But from a player's perspective, you get an opportunity to gain the respect of the players in those first meetings, those first training sessions as well.
'He's had a lot of experience from within that as well. So hopefully he manages to get that from the players.'
Chelsea's squad appeared split on Maresca's departure in the hours and days after the Italian manager left Stamford Bridge, with only eight first-team stars publicly saying goodbye to their former head coach.
Cole Palmer was among the 15 who failed to share a personalised tribute in the 24 hours after his New Year's Day exit.
But there is speculation as to whether some of Chelsea's biggest names will respect the new manager, due to Rosenior's comparatively humble coaching background.
Before joining Strasbourg, Rosenior had an overachieving spell at Championship side Hull - where he worked with current Chelsea striker Liam Delap - before being sacked at the end of the 2023-24 season over a clash of playing philosophies with the club's owner.
Rosenior made his managerial debut as an assistant coach at his former club Brighton's under-23 side, before moving on to work as an assistant to Phillip Cocu and then Wayne Rooney at Derby County.
'With the big fixture list we have, he's not going to have much time to get on the training pitch with the players and implement his style or his tactics, how he wants to play moving forward in a short space of time,' Terry continued.
'Like I said, the most important thing in the coming weeks is results, and hopefully we can get that. Also we have the transfer window coming up. Hopefully the owners and the board are going to back him and give him some money to come in the market and bring some players in.'
Maresca's falling-out with the Chelsea hierarchy and subsequent departure has not gone down well with a number of supporters, with plans afoot to protest club bosses ahead of their home match against Brentford on January 17.
Fan group 'Not a Project CFC' alleged that the club has been 'run less like an elite club and more like a player-trading farm focused on churn, speculation, and long-term potential at the expense of present-day competitiveness'.
In an apparent nod to the discord roiling at the club since before Maresca's departure, Terry finished his message by adding: 'Hopefully things will settle down now and we can focus on the football.
'Like all Chelsea fans, whoever the manager is and has been over the years and has been, Chelsea fans will always back their manager.'
Rosenior's arrival in the dugout in the capital has also attracted the ire of Strasbourg fans.
Supporters of Chelsea's sister club have frequently vented their spleen since BlueCo's June 2023 takeover of the Ligue 1 side, with fan group Strasbourg Supporters' Federation sharing an incensed statement in the wake of the announcement.
'The transfer of Liam Rosenior marks another humiliating step in Racing's subservience to Chelsea,' the statement read. 'For two and a half years, along with others, we have been trying to raise the alarm about this.
'The problem goes far beyond the mid-season sporting impact and the ambitions of a young coach. It is structural; the future of French club football is at stake.'
Rosenior will take charge of his first match at the helm of his new side for their FA Cup meeting with Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Caretaker manager Calum MacFarlane will continue in the dugout on Wednesday evening for the Blues' west London derby against Fulham, after the under-21s manager secured a spirits-raising 1-1 draw with Manchester City last Sunday.
